Ajaccio is located on the western side of the Island of Corsica in the Mediterranean. It is the capital and largest city of the region of Corsica, a region (or territorial collectivity, to be exact) of France.
Ajaccio's economy consists largely of the manufacture of cigars, macaroni and similiar products, as well as the trades of fishing and ship-building.
Ajaccio is served by trains which connect to Corte, Bastia and Calvi, and there are buses in the city. Campo dell-Oro Airport is on the east side of the Gulf of Ajaccio.
